“Railway Chai House” Murals
Brampton, Ontario
The Railway Chai House murals were painted by Megan Oldhues in 2024 and 2025 for two Railway Chai House locations in Brampton, Ontario:
10 Gillingham Drive, Unit 113, Brampton, ON L6X 0G6, Canada
244 Queen Street East, Unit 1, Brampton, ON L6V 1B8, Canada
These murals were designed and fully executed on site by Megan Oldhues with assistance from Troy Pynn, using spray paint, with the goal of capturing Indian culture, community, and the social significance of chai. The works draw inspiration from Indian railway stations as spaces of gathering, movement, and everyday ritual.
The imagery depicts people preparing and enjoying chai in front of Indian railway settings, translating familiar moments of daily life into large-scale public artworks created specifically for the Brampton community. Each mural was painted directly on the wall and documented through process photography during installation.
